Meet Martha Marie
Though not the first comedy character created by Rita, Martha Marie was the character that repeatedly got the most overwhelming response from audience members of all shapes, sizes, and ages. “I remember
being so surprised to learn that men loved Martha Marie as much as the women I’d fashioned her for! Even children, who aren’t typically in attendance, would soon be singing the songs they’d heard on a parent’s video or CD.” That’s when Rita decided to put other things aside and pour all her comedic energy into that one lively persona.
Martha Marie is a spunky southern-belle that truly is a character in every sense of the word and prone to turn up just about anywhere. Whether at a conference, convention, or merely a local restaurant conversing with perfect strangers, you’re apt to find Martha Marie there –doing the thing Martha says she does best – helping and encouraging people.
Before appearing on stage in full Martha Marie regalia, Rita enjoys learning bits and pieces about her audience which she then uses to customize each show. “I don’t know why God chose to give me this light-hearted gift of seeing things from such a whimsical, humorous perspective but He has. And since He has I want to use it for His glory,” she says. “Laughter has such a powerful way of shaking things up! At its best, it can plow up the crusty soil of our heart in order for God to go a little deeper.”
